これまで衣服には様々な素材が用いられてきました。とりわけ近代以降は絹や毛、綿や麻、あるいは化学繊維による織物と編物が大半を占めています。一方で20世紀になると織物や編物だけでなく、ビニールやプラスチックといった異素材にも関心が寄せられました。本展ではそのなかでも紙で制作された収蔵品をピックアップし、紙がファッションにどのように取り入れられてきたかを探ります。

"Pick out from The KCI's collection, No.24" at The KCI Gallery

Title: "Made of Paper: When paper becomes fashion"

Various materials have been used for clothes so far. Especially after the modern era, textiles and knitted fabrics made of silk, wool, cotton, linen and chemical fiber account for the majority. Meanwhile, in the 20th century, not only textiles and knitted fabrics, but also dissimilar materials such as vinyl and plastics gained attention. In this exhibition, we pick out paper-made clothes out of KCI collections and delve into how paper has been adopted in fashion.
Exhibits: Womenswear, menswear, underwear from the 18th Century to now, 17 pieces, including paper-made clothes in 2000s, "paper dress" in 1960s, and Haori in the Edo era.
