1980年代、身近な花や動物、有名なアート作品など、ユーモアと想像力にあふれたデザインの靴を次々と発表し、足元のファッションを彩ったデザイナー、熊谷登喜夫［1947-87］。
彼の活動、そして生涯は惜しくも短いものでしたが、その中で生み出された作品は今なお色褪せない魅力を持ち、時代を超えて多くのデザイナーに影響を与え続けています。
熊谷登喜夫の生誕75周年となる2022年、KCIギャラリーでは熊谷がデザインした1980年代の靴を中心に展示。財団の収蔵する18世紀から現代までの靴も出品し、靴デザインの歴史的変遷も併せてご紹介します。

Flowers, animals, automobiles, and famous artworks – inspirations of Tokio Kumagaï (1947-87) for his shoe design in 1980s are wide-ranging, filled with humor as well as imagination. During his promising career, suddenly ended by his premature death in 1987, Kumagaï gave birth to outstanding works which have been unchangingly attracting shoe-lovers and affecting designers of our time.

In 2022, the 75^th anniversary of his birth, the KCI Gallery shows around 40 pieces which represent the designer’s creativity, tracing back the history of footwear along with shoes by other makers from the 18^th century up to now.
