布地を裁ち、一枚の平面を立体の衣服へと転換していくために必要な「型」。紙上のパターンをはじめ、衣服はさまざまな型＝モデルをもとにつくられます。型の発展は、ときに芸術品のようなオートクチュールの制作を、またときには衣服の大量生産を可能にしてきました。画面の向こうで行うデジタルモデリズムも登場する現在、モデルをもとに衣服を制作/製作することは、ファッションデザインになにをもたらしてきたのでしょうか。本展示では、衣服の型にまつわるKCIの収蔵品を計13点展示いたします。

A Selection from KCI’s collection, No. 36: Modelling: Creating a Form

‘Models’ are necessary for cutting fabric and transforming a single flat surface into a three-dimensional garment. Garments are made from a variety of models, like patterns on paper. The development of modelling in fashion has made possible the creation of haute couture, which sometimes looks like a work of art, as well as the mass production of everyday garments. With the rise of digital modelling on a PC screen, what has the garment creation with models brought to fashion design? This exhibition will feature approximately 13 items from KCI's collection related to the garment models.
