19世紀後半のパリで活躍したアメリカ出身の女性画家メアリー・カサット（1844－1926）は、エドガー・ドガとの運命的な出会いをきっかけに印象派展に参加し、身近な人々や家庭の情景を主題に独自の画風を確立しました。特に母子を温かな眼差しで捉えた作品は多くの人々の共感を呼び、「母子像の画家」としてのカサットの名を不朽のものとしています。日本では35年ぶりとなる今回の回顧展では、カサットの初期から晩年までの代表作に加え、交流のあった印象派の画家たちの作品や、画家が愛した日本の浮世絵版画などをあわせた合計約110点が展示されます。
KCIは、本展出展作である《桟敷席にて》（1878年）に描かれたドレスと同時代のドレス１点を出展します。

Exhibition Loan: "Mary Cassatt Retrospective"
The American-born painter Mary Cassatt (1844-1926) was active in Paris in the late 19th century. Following a fateful encounter with Edgar Degas, Cassatt was invited to take part in the Impressionist exhibition, and developed a unique style based on subjects like familiar people and household scenes. Arousing many viewers' sympathies with works that captured mothers and their children with a warm gaze, Cassatt's name became eternally linked to this familial bond.
This retrospective, the first to be held in Japan in 35 years, is made up of some 100 carefully selected oil paintings, prints, pastels, and drawings. In addition to works from throughout Cassatt's career, the exhibition includes paintings by the Impressionists she knew and the Japanese ukiyo-e prints she loved.
The KCI will exhibit a day dress which was created at around the same time as the day dress painted in "In the Loge" (1878).
