In addition to an annual journal devoted to fashion studies, the KCI publishes lavishly illustrated, full-color exhibition catalogues. In cooperation with the art book publisher Taschen, the institute issued Fashion: A History of the 18th Century to the 20th Century, Collection of the Kyoto Costume Institute, an introduction to the KCI Collection that includes 400 photographs.
As part of the KCI’s research and publicity activities, we publish an annual journal every fall. Based on the idea of clothing as a mirror of society, the journal approaches the study of fashion as an interdisciplinary research subject that transcends conventional boundaries. Researchers from a wide range of fields have honored us with their contributions to the publication.
