This yellowish green suit is combined with a necktie of the same color and a light purple shirt. Around the first half of the 1990s, when the dividing line between casual and formal was not very clear, suits like this appeared with showy colors like red, purple, and yellow. However, this could be considered a revival of the colored suits from the disco culture popular in the 1970s, or of the peacock revolution of 1967, which trumpeted diverse colors in men’s clothing. Paul Smith began by opening a small menswear shop in Nottingham, UK in 1970. He subsequently launched his own brand and showed his collections in Paris starting in 1976. Smith’s designs can be said to be characterized by an “English look” that mixed various elements with traditional British tailoring, as is the case with this outfit.
